​This is George Washington's high backed chair from the convention. What do you notice about it?

​Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition – People have the right to express their opinions, practice any religion, and gather peacefully.

Right to bear arms – Citizens have the right to own firearms.

No quartering of soldiers – The government cannot force citizens to house soldiers during peacetime.

Protection from unreasonable searches and seizures – People are protected from searches and taking of property without a warrant or just cause.

Rights in criminal cases – People cannot be forced to testify against themselves and are protected from double jeopardy (being tried twice for the same crime).

​Right to a fair trial – Citizens have the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury.

Rights in civil cases – People have the right to a jury trial in civil cases involving a certain amount of money.

Protection from excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment – Excessive fines or punishments are not allowed.

Other rights of the people – Citizens have rights beyond those listed in the Constitution.

Powers reserved to the states and people – Any powers not given to the federal government belong to the states or the people.

​Adjusted for todays dollars, the celebration dinner for the 55 men who worked on the constitution cost $15,400 dollars.
