How many branches are there?

There are 5 different branches of the US Armed Forces.

United States Army, June 14th, 1775

To deploy, fight and win our nation’s wars by
providing ready, prompt and sustained land
dominance by Army forces across the full
spectrum of conflict as part of the joint force.

Essentially the US Army is tasked with engaging
foreign adversaries in combat on the ground
utilizing a variety of vehicle platforms and
weapon systems.

United States Navy, October 13th 1775

To recruit, train, equip, and organize to deliver
combat ready Naval forces to win conflicts and
wars while maintaining security and deterrence
through sustained forward presence.

The Navy originally started out protecting our
nation's commerce in the 17th/18th centuries.
During the second World War our Navy became
a global superpower. Today the Navy air program
accounts for nearly half of our air power as well.

United States Air Force, September 18th 1947

The mission of the United States Air Force is to
fly, fight, and win…airpower anytime, anywhere

The US Air Force was founded two years after
the end of the second World War. The Air Force
was mainly charged with bringing troops to the
battlefield and bringing supplies. Most air to air
combat is successful due to the exceptional
training of the Air Force.

United States Coast Guard, January 28th 1915 * Aug. 4th 1790

The mission of the United States Coast Guard is
to ensure our Nation’s maritime safety, security
and stewardship.

The US Coast Guard was formally recognized as
a defense entity due to the aggressive tactics
utilized by the Axis Powers of the first World War.

United States Marine Corps, November 10th 1775

The Marine Corps mission reflects every Marine's
purpose. In essence, our Nation is that purpose. In our
world, in ourselves, and in our way, there are conflicts,
challenges, and obstacles that must be fought
confidently and defeated convincingly for our Nation to
prevail. These looming battles come in many forms
and occur on many fronts, but each comes down to a
critical choice: to demand victory or accept defeat. To
pull together or fall apart. To give in or cave in. It is a
decision each Marine conveys to our Nation with each
battle won.

The Marine Corps is world famous for their intense
and brutal training conditions. Often credited for their
sustained success on the battlefield. Originally created
as Naval security essentially.

Battle of Iwo Jima, US Marine Corps, WW-II

1.US Marines vs. Japan

2.Iwo Jima was apart of a larger chain of islands known as the
Solomon Islands

3.Iwo Jima is a small island. Only 2 miles wide and 4 miles long

4.US Marines heavily outnumbered Japanese Army.

5.Japanese Army was still able to have a stiff resistance
because of elaborate tunnel system

6.The Navajo Code Talkers played a pivotal role

7.The flame thrower proved to be a devastating yet effective
weapon

8.The battle lasted 36 days from Feb 19 - Mar 26, 1945

9.Around 7,000 US Marines died. While the Japanese suffered
almost totally. Over 15,000 killed.

10.Considered one of the bloodiest battles in the history of the
Marine Corps.
