Bering Land Bridge

Paleo- Indians- Believed to cross the bridge between Alaska and Eastern Asia between 38,000 and 10,000 BC.

• Scientists believe people arrived in North America during the last Ice Age.

• Migration- a movement of people or animals from one region to another.

• Hunter-gatherers- These are people who hunted animals for food and gathered wild plants for food.

Environments are climates and landscapes that surround living things. Migration of animals convinced the hunters to follow these animals

Culture is a group's set of common values and traditions, including, government, language and family relationships.
Farming became a big tradition for these new people which led them to continue to settle the lands.

• Around 1200 BC the Olmec developed the earliest known civilization in Mesoamerica.

• The Olmecs eventually ended around 400 BC but their traditions lived on. Getting passed to the Mayans.

• The Mayans built large cities with crops and areas for social gatherings. This civilization ended around the 900's.

Olmecs and Mayans

• Around mid 1100 AD the Aztec migrated to central Mexico.

• They were fierce warriors and used their force to become successful.

• In 1325 AD they founded their capital Tenochtitlan which is present day Mexico City.

• The Aztec had calendars, math, and a language called Nahuatl. This language still exists and is used by around 1.5 million people in Central Mexico today.

• The Inca a small tribe in the Andes Mountains.

• Named their capital Cuzco they had no written language but kept records in quipu.
  Quipu is a system of knotted strings, the knots indicated numbers while string color indicated information.

• They are known for building and for art. A system of highways spanned their empire.
