Plant Transport System and Respiratory System
2
We have already learned...
there is a plant transport system, the xylem and phloem
phloem= food-carrying
xylem= water-carrying
where is food made in and where is the food transported to?
where is water absorbed in and where is the water transported to?

Respiratory System
So far, we learned that...
- Nose, windpipe and lungs are involved in the system
-We breathe in air, some which are nitrogen, some oxygen, and other gases
-We breathe out air, which contains carbon dioxide. Our lungs take in the oxygen, absorbing it into the bloodstream.
-All living things need to respire.
Respire = breathe

Draw
Draw an example of an activity that will cause your body to need more oxygen and your heart to pump faster.
(Any inappropriate images will be screenshot and sent to parent.)
13
Plants
In short, plants make food only when there is light.
Plants respire all the time, day and night. All plants need oxygen to survive.
Gases will be given off and taken in through stomata present on the leaves.
Be sure of the variables needed for each of the 2 processes to occur.

Multiple Choice
Arawona placed a leaf in a beaker of water in the middle of the night. After an hour, she saw some bubbles on the leaf. The bubbles are ________.
carbon dioxide
oxygen
nitrogen
water vapour
15
What is limewater?
Limewater is a chemical liquid that turns white or chalky when there is carbon dioxide.
When we breathe out (exhale), the air that is exhaled contains carbon dioxide.
Therefore, when we breathe out into a straw in limewater, the limewater will turn white or chalky because there is carbon dioxide in the air that we blow out.
Watch the next video to see how it happens.
16
17
The leaf that has more stomata, has more bubbles. This is because there are more gases (bubbles) leaving the stomata. The air is leaving the stomata in the form of tiny bubbles.
Watch this video and try to find which leaf has more stomata.
