What is a Verb?

Verbs are words that show an action or state of being. For example:

future.

1. We use the simple present tense to refer to an action or situation that happens regularly or frequently. To show repetition, habits, routines, hobbies, etc.

   For example:

   • They study English every day.

   • My friends are always busy.

   • My brother plays soccer on the weekends.

   • I never watch T.V.

   • Carlos doesn't wake up at 7h00 a.m.

2. It is used to express facts or general truths, when something is generally or always true.

   For example:

   • People need food.

   • It snows in winter here.

   • Two and two make four.

   • Water freezes at zero degrees.

   • The Earth revolves around the Sun.

   • Her mother is Peruvian.

3. We use it to talk about the future when we are discussing a timetable, a fixed plan or scheduled events. Usually, the timetable is fixed by an organisation, not by us.

   For example:

   • The train leaves tonight at 6 PM.

   • The bus does not arrive at 10 AM, it arrives at 11 AM.

   • When do we board the plane?

   • The party starts at 8 o'clock.

   • Our holiday begins on the 26th March

4. Finally, we use it to express opinions, states or feelings. For example:

• I like pizza.

• She loves to run.

• Do you want some water?

• They don't like basketball.

• I think that this class is very important.

• Ecuador is a nice country.
