  1. How does the scene convey a message about tradition?

  1. The scene uses rope as a symbol – what is it a symbol of? And what is the message for the audience?

The rope represents the Maori people. Each strand is like one person, and together they are strong. Koro cannot get the rope to work (turn on the motor) But Pai, gets it to work. It tells the audience that Pikea, not Koro, is the one who will bring the people together.
