​We use the PAST SIMPLE to talk about actions happened in the past. We use it to talk about FINISHED actions. They also give as specific details or information about the event.

Did you meet in 2019?
I went to Miami 3 years ago.
Sandy and Ana played in the park last week.
Sam didn't pick up the children at school.

​We use the PRESENT PERFECT to talk about actions happened in the past that continue up to the PRESENT. We use it to talk about UNFINISHED actions. They give us general info, period of time. They talk about EXPERIENCES.

​Example:
Samantha has been to England 3 times.
Have you ever eaten sushi?
Keyla and her family have lived in Guayaquil since 1999.
Scarlet Johanson has won an Oscar this year.
I haven't cleaned the bathroon yet.
