Network Media Devices
2
In previous lesson, you learned about the different network topologies and created a network cable. In this lesson you will know about the different network devices.
Different network devices play different roles in computer networks. These network devices also work in different segments of your computer network and performs different jobs. A new series by network topology describes various network devices such as switches, routers, hubs, and bridges.

3
network hub is a node that sends data to any computer or Ethernet-based device connected to it. Hubs aren't as sophisticated as switches that can separate data transfers to specific devices.
Network Hub
4
Network Switch
A network switch is a multiport network bridge that forwards data packets using the client device's hardware address (MAC). Some special switches route data through the network layer (IP), adding more control and functionality to the network.
5
Network Bridge
A network bridge is a device that divides a network into segments. Each segment represents a separate collision domain, reducing the number of collisions in the network. Because each collision domain has its own bandwidth, the bridge also improves network performance.
6
Network Router
A router is a network device that operates at layer 3 or the network layer of the OSI model. They are responsible for receiving, analyzing, and forwarding data packets between connected computer networks. When a data packet arrives, the router looks at the destination address, uses the routing table to determine the best route, and forwards the packet along that route.
7
Modem
A modulator / demodulator, or modem, is a computer hardware device that converts data from a digital format to a format suitable for analog transmission media such as telephones and radios. The modem sends data by modulating one or more carrier signals to encode the digital information, and the receiver demodulates the signal to restore the original digital information.
8
Repeaters
Repeaters are network devices that operate at the physical layer of the OSI model, amplifying or regenerating incoming signals, and then retransmitting them. They are integrated into the network and expand the coverage area. These are also known as signal boosters.
