The forms of estar

Yo estoy - I am Nosotros estamos - We are

Tú estás - You are (informal) Vosotros estáis - You all are (Spain)

Él está - He is Ellos están - They are (males/mixed)

Ella está - She is Ellos están - They are (females)

Usted está - You are (formal) Ustedes están - You all are

You will need to memorize these and remember which forms have accents and which do not!

Use estar to talk about someone's feelings, emotions of health.

Use #1

La chica está ocupada. - The girl is busy.

¿Cómo estás? - How are you?

¿Cómo está usted? - How are you? (formal)

Yo estoy enferma. - I am sick.

Mi padre está alegre. - My dad is happy.

Ellos están mal. - They are bad.

Use estar to talk about the location of a person, place or thing.

Food Lion está al lado de Dollar Tree. - Food Lion is near Dollar Tree.

Yo estoy en casa. - I am at home.

La mochila está cerca de la silla. - The backpack is near the chair.

El escritorio está lejos de la ventana. - The desk is far rom the window.
