The Simple Past Tense

The simple past tense is used to talk about activities that began and ended in the past.

For example: yesterday, last night, two days ago, etc.

Change the verb in parentheses to past tense to complete each sentence properly.

The Simple Future Tense

​Be going to and will are used to express future time. They are used to make predictions about the future.

Be going to and will often give the same meaning, but sometimes express different meaning.

Be going to vs. Will

​ Be going to is used to express a prior plan. A plan made before the moment of speaking.

Will is used to express a decision the speaker makes at the moment.

Examples

​She is going to succeed because she works hard.
She will succeed because she works hard.

I bought some wood because I am going to build a bookcase for my apartment.

The chair is too heavy for you to carry alone. I will help you.
