Inferences & Relevant Support Day 2

Learning Target

Today we are…

Reading a text about little chicken

So we can…

Use relevant text details to support our inferences.

Warm Up

Close your eyes and imagine that
you are outside when a clear blue
sky suddenly gets dark and gray,

the wind starts blowing, and trees

start swaying. Then the

microwave beeps. What detail is

irrelevant to infer a storm is

coming?

Inferences

When readers talk about what a text says
explicitly or make inferences about what the
text does not say explicitly, it is important to
use relevant text details.

●Relevant textual evidence are details that
clearly and directly explain and support
the inference and not some other idea.

●Irrelevant details might be interesting,
but they do not clearly and directly
support the inference.

Inference

found his own strength. What

A.

He is a momma’s boy.

B.

He has 30 pairs of boots.

C.

He can go farther than
