Basics of Audio in a DAW

When recording with a microphone, we are capturing sound waves that propagate through the air. A transducer in the microphone captures all these waves and when they enter into our computer it converts our waves (analog signal) into a digital signal that the computer can read and display for us to see and edit.

Recording Audio

• ​Splitting - cutting audio and separating it into different regions. This editing technique is also known as separating or cutting.

• Duplicating - duplicating a selected region or track. This is useful for editing a different copy of an audio or MIDI track.

• Consolidating - combining multiple regions into one track. This can be useful for cleaning up your project and making it look neater.
