Who opposed/supported the nullification act

• John C Calhoun: Senator of South Carolina, biggest opponent of the tariff.

• President Andrew Jackson believed in a strong Union and feared that nullification would destroy the nation. Was going to use the army to put S.C in check.

Compromise Tariff of 1833

• Proposed by Henry Clay, it aimed to ease tensions between the federal government and states' rights advocates,

• helped prevent a potential secession and maintained the balance between federal power and states' rights.
