Some nouns have irregular plurals.

There are special rules for them!

SOME nouns that end in "f" or "fe" change the "f" to "v" and add "es."

• wolf → wolves

• leaf → leaves

• life → lives

While others.... don't.

• roof → roofs

Unforunately, you just have to memorize them.

• A good rule, though, is that, if it looks wrong, it probably is.

• wolf → wolfs → NO!!!!

• roof → rooves → NO!!!!

For nouns that end in a vowel and "o," add -s.

• Remember that vowels are a, e, i, o, and u!

• radio → radios

• video → videos

• rodeo → rodeos

For nouns that end in a consonant and "o," you add -s to some and -es to others.

• tomato → tomatoes

• hero → heroes

• piano → pianos

Unfortunately, these are more words you need to memorize.

• The same rule as earlier applies though!!

• If it looks weird, it's probably not right.

• If you wrote "pianoes," that looks super weird, right?

• That's because it's wrong!

Some nouns have a special form that doesn't end in -s.

• tooth → teeth

• woman → women

• goose → geese

• person → people

These are more that you just have to memorize.

You probably recognize and know most of them, though, even if you don't realize it!

Lastly, some nouns just stay the same in their singular and plural forms.

• deer → deer

• sheep → sheep

• This is another to memorize, but these words would look and sound weird if their plural looked different!
