Intonation is the way that we

raise and lower our voices

Expression is the way that we use our voice to convey

emotion.

​Intonation is the sound pattern of your voice that rises or falls when you speak.

Certain intonation patterns are often used with certain types of sentences. For example, yes-no questions and tag questions typically end with a rising intonation while information questions (wh questions) and affirmative sentences typically end with a falling intonation. In addition, questions that offer choices will typically have a rising intonation on each choice and a falling intonation on the last choice, showing that the speaker has finished (Mixed Intonation).

​Put a down-pointing arrow ( ) in the space if the voice falls OR put an up-pointing arrow ( ) if the voice rises at the end of each sentence. The first two sentences have been done as examples.
