Can you tell me the difference between beat and rhythm?

Beat

​Combination of notes and rests of different lengths

Rhythm

MARCHING BAND

• Performs outdoors - usually marching

• Mostly Winds - Brass & Woodwind with Percussion (Same as concert band)

• Plays a variety of music

• Led by a Drum Major

-Heels come together
-Toes are pointed out at a 45-degree angle
-The back is straight
-Chin is up
-Eyes are looking straight ahead
-Mouth is shut

Attention

-Begin on the left foot
- Pick up the left leg with a slight bend and bring it back down
-Pick up the right leg with a slight bend of the knee and bring it back down
-Percussion will keep beat with a cadence or stick taps

Mark Time

-Step off with the left foot
-Guide to the left and right to stay in line
-Stay on beat with percussion
-4-steps behind the line in front of you

-End on the right foot
-Move to Attention after the Halt
