WH QUESTIONS

A WH question in English is a request for information.

Wh- questions usually start with a word beginning with wh-, but "how" is also included. The wh- words are: what, when, where, who, whom, which, whose, why, and how.

How to create a WH question?

WH Question + main verb + subjetc + complement + ?

What is your name?

Where is your office?

When is your birthday?

What: It's used to ask for information about something or to confirm something

• What is the most important day of the year?

• What? I can’t understand what you said.

Who: It's used to refer to people, to discover the subject of the action

• Who is your teacher?

• Who has a camera?

• Who is it?

Whose: We use whose to ask who owns something.

• Whose bag is this?

• Whose sunglasses are these?

• Whose bike is this?

Which: It's used to ask for an option, when there is a choice to make

• Which car do you have?

• Which phone are you paying?

• Which do you prefer? tea or coffee?

Where: It's used to ask for a place or position where something is located

• Where is the library?

• Where are my keys?

When: We will use this to ask for a time when something happened, it is not very specific, but it covers days, months, years, short moments of the day

• When do they take classes?

• When do you cook dinner?

Why: It's used to ask for the reason of something

• Why are you studying English?

• Why are you here?

How: It's used to describe the process so another person can understand.

• How do you tie a shoelace?

• How do you download a video from Youtube?

SUBJECT QUESTIONS

The answer is the person or thing doing the action.

For example:

Gaby is traveling to France.

Who is traveling to France?

Gaby.

SUBJECT QUESTION

WE DON'T USE AN AUXILIAR FOR SUBJECT QUESTIONS.

WE USE THE VERB IN THE CORRESPONDING TENSE. FOR EXAMPLE:

Mike has a the store.

Q: Who has a store?

SUBJECT QUESTIONS WITH WHOSE.

We can also use WHOSE to ask subject questions.

WHOSE asks "who is the owner"

After whose we always add a noun (the thing we are talking about)
