BENJAMIN BRITTEN
• Edward Benjamin Britten was a British composer, conductor & pianist
• He was born in 1917 and died in 1976
• He is best known for composing operas such as Peter Grimes, Turn of The
Screw & Billy Budd

As a young boy, Britten was
influenced by his mother
who was an amateur singer
By age 5 he was already
studying and composing
music
In fact, at age 6 he wrote a
play titled the “Royal Fa lily”
At age 11 he met the
composer Frank Bridge who
gave him musical guidance
Frank Bridge also introduced
Britten to many composers
from different countries
At age 13 he won a
scholarship to the Royal
College of Music in London
