Inuit culture is amazing! Inuit culture is a whole story of survival, traditions, and a deep connection to the Arctic environment.

Introduction

The Inuit Nunaat (Inuit homeland) is located in parts of Greenland, Canada, Alaska and Russia. These are very cold places.

Where do Inuit live?

Inuit mostly speak Inuktitut, but there are many other dialects of Inuktitut. Many Inuit also speak English and French in more urban areas.

What do they speak?

Urban - a city-like, industrial area

The ancestors of the present-day Inuit arrived in the Arctic around 1050 CE. Some stories tell of gods and goddesses who lived in the sea. Other stories offer teachings about the stars in the night sky. Inuit oral traditions are meant to be entertaining and educational. They uphold Inuit customs. Many explain the Inuit relationship to the world around them. Many Inuit myths describe how animals can hear and understand human words.
