เป็นการใช้ในการที่อธิบายถึงเหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ในช่วงเวลาหนึ่งในอดีต
โครงสร้างประโยคบอกเล่า
S (ประธาน) + was/were + v. ing (คำกริยาที่เติม ing)
Example:
She was sleeping.
We were cooking together.

Past Continuous vs Past Simple คือ เหตุการณ์หนึ่งกำลังเกิดขึ้นในอดีต (Past Con.) และมีอีกเหตุการณ์เข้ามาแทรก (Past Sim.) หลักการจำง่าย ๆ คือ Past Con ดำเนินอยู่ Past Sim เข้ามาแทรก
Example:
While we were studying, she entered the room.
(ขณะที่พวกเรากำลังเรียนอยู่ เธอก็เข้ามาในห้อง)
