What are Conifers?

• A conifer is a type of plant.

• Conifers reproduce via their cones which contain their seeds. which makes them different from flowering plants.

• Conifers are typically (but not always) evergreen trees with needle-like foliage.

• Conifers are among the oldest living plants. Pine trees, redwoods, ginkgo trees, and Douglas fir are all types of conifer trees.

3 Characteristics of Conifers

• All conifers have cones.

• These seed-bearing pods are the conifer’s means of reproduction.

• A typical cone from a conifer is woody and light, but some conifers make fleshy cones

• Many conifers have foliage that is spiny or needly, particularly evergreen conifers.

2) ​Spiny foliage

• Conifers can vary greatly in size, from the giant redwoods being some of the largest trees in the world to moderately-sized juniper trees.

• As for shape, some conifers grow in a traditional Christmas tree-shaped triangle, while others grow low and flat to the ground.

Coniferous Forests are located in the northern regions of Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United States.

• The average temperature in winter ranges from -40°C to 20°C. The average summer temperatures are usually around 10°C.

• 300 to 900 millimetres (12 to 35 inches) of rain per year can be expected.
