Buck
Buck did not know much about the world. He didn't know that far away, in a cold land, men had found gold. There was so much snow in this land that men needed sleds to get from place to place. And they needed strong dogs to pull their sleds. Many men were looking for big, strong dogs with warm coats, like Buck. But Buck had no way to know that.
When Judge Miller rode his horse, Buck was there to race at his side. When Mrs. Miller went walking, Buck went with her. And when the Judge's sons took their morning swim, Buck joined them in the pool.

Buck is happy because he feels safe, loved, and has a lot of fun with Judge Miller and his family.
If Buck knew what was happening, he might be curious but also scared, as he has never been away from home.
The men need strong dogs like Buck to pull their sleds through the snow, as it’s the only way to travel in the cold land.
If Buck is taken to the cold land, he might struggle at first because it’s very different from his home, but he could also learn to adapt and become stronger.
Buck might prefer to stay with Judge Miller because it’s safe and familiar, but part of him might also be excited for the adventure and challenges in the cold land.
