We live in Kyiv which is our native city. Most citizens here live in block of flats nowadays. But long time ago Kyivans lived in the houses made of wood. They built their houses using pine trunks. Most of their buildings had the ground floor and the first floor. Our forefathers put moss between trunks or logs to make the house warmer.

There were chimney stoves with an oven, a sleeping ledge in the houses. The houses had the wooden or straw roof. The roofs were steep so that snow could slide off them in winter. There were workshops on the ground floors. The houses usually had a courtyard.
