91. 1st Grade SRR: Gulls Fly

Have you ever seen gulls fly?

Gulls flap and then glide as breezes lift them high. They dip and dive like kites. It is fun to see them fly, glide, and dive up in the sky.

Gulls use their eyes to find snacks to eat. They use their beaks to peck and poke at the bugs, seeds, fish, and shellfish they find. Gulls dive, scold, and fight to steal meals from other gulls and people at the beach.

Gulls sit on rocks, logs, and docks to rest. Gulls sit on sand as well.

Gulls get up and move when big waves roll up on the beach. Then they run back when the waves slip away.

Gulls dig nests in sand and add grass and seaweed. They lay eggs and sit on them to keep them warm.

When they hatch, the fuzz on chicks helps them stay warm. Mom and dad gulls bring things for the chicks to eat.

Gulls are white and gray. Some gulls have black patches as well.

Look at this gull’s feet. Its toes are held together with webs of skin. A gull’s toe webs make its feet like fins and help it swim.

Try to find gulls when you go to beaches. Look at them as they fly. Stroll on wet sand to find gull tracks.

Hide your snacks if you leave your beach mat! Gulls are bold and will eat them if you don’t hide them.
