105. 1st Grade SSR: Little Animals

This animal is a mink kit. We can use the word kit for any little being that has fur. A kit needs its mom to keep it warm and fed.

It can’t find food on its own yet, so its mom makes milk for it to drink. All animal moms with fur can make milk. These moms do a lot to keep their little ones fed, safe, and snug.

A mom rabbit tugs out bits of her fur to make a soft nest. Then she gives birth to a number of rabbit kits. Her kits creep, press, and push to get to her milk.

Rabbit kits grow fast. Their fur starts to grow, and their eyes open for the first time. Soon the kits will hop with their mom.

A kitten is born with soft fuzz and its eyes shut. It drinks its mom’s milk and sleeps a lot in the days after its birth. When it is about ten days old, its eyes open. A mom cat licks her kittens to keep them clean.

Kittens like to play. Mom cats watch them to be sure they stay safe. Kittens watch mom cats to find out how to do things.

When this foal was born, it lay in hay. It saw its big mom standing above it. In a while, it got up on its long legs, and it could stand firm after trying a number of times.

It took time for the foal to stand and take its first steps. Then it started to run. It is just one day old, but it can run as fast as its mom! Mom and foal both like going fast!

This big reptile stays close to her nest. She digs it up when her little ones start peeping and hatching. She will take them to water in a creek or lake. She will watch after them until they grow more.
