A loss of voluntary movement in the lower half of the body, including both legs; often as a result of spinal cord injury or disease

Paraplegia

Paralysis of all four extremities

​​Quadriplegia

​Disorder involving a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin

​​Anemia

Cancer of the blood-forming tissue of the bone marrow; causes an excess in WBCs (white blood cells)

Leukemia

An increase in the number of WBCs (white blood cells) in the blood, especially during an infection.

Leukocytosis

​A reduction in the number of WBCs in the blood

​​Leukopenia

The presence of white patches on a mucous membrane, especially the mouth.

Leukoplakia

​The "belly" side of the front of the body.

​​Ventral

​The "head end" of the front of the body

Anterior

The back of the body or the spinal column.

​​Dorsal

​The tail end, or rear, of the body.

​​Posterior

​Hint: Think of stepping on ants

​Hint: Think of a dolphin fin, its on its back.

​Hint: Think of 'posted up' on a wall, the wall is touching your back

​Location that describes being located closer to the top of the head in relation to a specific reference point to the body.

​​Superior

Location that describes being located closer to the soles of the feet in relation to a specific point on the body.

Inferior

Location that describes being related to the cranium or being situated near the head.

​​Cephalic

Location that describes being related to, or situated near, the tail or inferior end of the body.

​​Caudal

​Located NEAR a point of origin.

Proximal

Being located AWAY from the point of origin.

​​Distal

Located near the midline, or center of the body.

​​Medial

Located near the side of the body, or further from the midline of the body. The body position of lying on the right or left side.

Lateral

​A horizontal plane that divides the body into upper and lower sections.

​​Transverse

A vertical plane that divides the body into front and back sections.

​​Frontal/Coronal

​Divides the body vertically into unequal left and right sections.

Sagittal

​Divides the body vertically into equal left and right sections.

Midsagittal
