module 9 :)

2

What does the delta represent?

(f - i)

MUST BE IN kJ/mol

calculated by direct and indirect methods

DELTA h

a state function

used to measure energy

we use delta H to determine the change, as it cannot be measured directly.

What is it?

Enthalpy

3

Direct method

MAIN EQUATION: H rxn = H prod - H react

media

4

Break down the equation

Hf rxn = (e delta H f of prod) - (e delta H f of react)

E represents sum

delta H f = enthalpies of formation of products and the same for reactants

Remember, if given values, use direct, if given equations use indirect

If something is in its elemental state, the E of formation will be 0

5

TRY THiS out

C6 H12 (l) + 9(O2) (g) --- 6 (Co2) (g) + 6 H2O (l)

CO2 (g) = -393.5 kJ/mol

H2O (l) = -285.8 kJ/mol

use the equation and lmk if you have questions!

What are the reactants? what are the products?

6

ONE more :)

Thermite reaction involves Al and Fe(II)O3, calulate the heat realsed in Kj per Gram of Al reacted with Fe2O3

Al2O3 (s) = -1669.8 kJ/mol

Fe2O3 (s) = -822.2 kJ/mol

Fe (l) = 12.4 kJ/mol

7

must manipulate the given equation to match the reaction given.

If you do something to the equation, you must apply it to the enthaply change

What do i do?

Uses sum of multiple reactions

What is it?
