​In China Valentine's Day is not celebrated on the 14th of February like in the U.S. The equivalent of Valentine's Day is called Qixi. Like Valentine's Day it celebrates romance. It is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month each year. It is known as Seventh Night Festival. Unlike American Valentine's Day it is not celebrated with chocolate!

​If you love Valentine's Day what could be better than celebrating it three times? In South Korea, Valentine's celebrations are spread out from February to April! On February 14 women give gifts to men. They typically give flowers, cards, and chocolate. On March 14, men give flowers and gifts to their sweethearts. Finally, on April 14 single people lament their lack of romance. This sad day is called Black Day.

​Is any place more romantic than France? France is famous for being romantic. Paris, France is considered one of the most romantic cities on Earth. It is no surprise that France has some very old Valentine's Day traditions. Many people think the first Valentine's Day card originated in France. The Duke of Orleans sent love letters to his wife while he was in prison in 1415. Valentine's Day cards are still popular in France and all around the world.

​In Italy, early Valentine's Day celebrations occurred in the form of a Spring Festival. This involved taking walks in beautiful gardens. Couples would also enjoy poetry readings and music during this time. Today, Italians celebrate Valentine's Day slightly differently. Lovers exchange gifts and share hazelnuts. These treats come wrapped with romantic quotes. How sweet!
