Larvae, or work-like grubs, soon hatch from these eggs. This is the second stage of metamorphosis.

In the fist stage the egg is laid by the adult.

Some eggs are so tiny they can only be seen under a microscope, and some can be up to one-half inch long.

When larvae finally stop eating, they molt one last time into the third stage.
