Battle of Gonzales

After nearly ten years of conflict, the Texans finally took up arms and began fighting with the Mexican military.

In an effort to take complete control of Texas, he began to try and recover all military equipment in Texas. They demanded that settlers give up their cannons.

In Gonzales,

American settlers not only refused to give their cannon, they buried it.

Americans also removed the ferry from the Guadalupe River to keep Mexican soldiers from entering Gonzales to try and get the cannon.

Francisco Castaneda and a group of 100 Mexican soldiers arrived in Gonzales. Their goal was to get the cannon.

No Texans lost their lives during the battle. Accepting defeat, Mexican soldiers returned to San Antonio.

There was no turning back for Texans. The Texas Revolution had begun.

More troops arrived. Americans decided to attack.

Castaneda had been ordered to not make a mess. They couldn't reach an agreement so he decided to give up and leave.
