The Pedestrian pt 2

The characters who watch viewing screens are more creative and educated than Mr. Mead.

The characters, other than Mr. mead, are lifeless, inactive, and antisocial.

Mr. Mead, who does not have a viewing screen and who has no one to interact with, is likely lonely and feels different from others.

Mr. Mead likes to go for walks at night.

Mr. Mead is chased by a dog when he passes a house with a viewing screen.

Mr. Mead decides to convince the others to read his books and stop watching the viewing screens.

Mr. Mead is taken away by police because he is suspicious for walking at night instead of watching a viewing screen like everyone else.

People do not have to work or go shopping.

No one walks for recreation or exercise anymore?

Most diseases have been eradicated or can be cured.

People are very superstitious and believe in ghosts.

"'Just walking, Mr. Mead?' "Yes.' 'But you haven't explained for what purpose.' 'I explained: for air, and to see, and just to walk.'"

"On this particular evening he began his journey in a westerly direction, toward the hidden sea."

"'You might say that,' said Mr. Mead. He hadn't written in years. Magazines and books didn't sell anymore."

"Crime was ebbing; there was no need now for the police, same for this lone car wandering and wandering the empty streets."

Writing no longer exists as a profession and is therefore irrelevant

Writing involves creativity and individuality, traits clearly not welcomed in this society

Mr. Mead can potentially reveal the secrets of the society in which he lives
