The Earth really likes to move it.

This is our Earth

2

This is our Earth rotating on it's Axis

media

The red arrows show that it is rotating (or spinning) on it's axis.

3

Because of it's Axis, the Earth also makes a motion called precession.

Sort of like a top spinning around.

Earth's rotational axis will precess over time due to two combined effects: axial precession (shown here) and apsidal precession, as its elliptical orbit also precesses. The combined effects, which have ~26,000 and ~112,000 year periods, respectively, result in a total precessional period of closer to ~23,000 years.

Earth spins on an axis that is slightly tilted. The sun's gravity causes torque, or twisting, so that Earth wobbles like a top. The result is called precession, and it means our orientation in space changes in a circular path over a very long time.
