The two girls stood, transfixed, staring at the sight before them. It looked like a page from their textbook had come to life. The air was pleasantly warm and filled with the cries, chirps, snorts, and calls of the animals gathered at the drinking hole. “Is this a dream?” Angela asked. “I’ll pinch you and you pinch me,” Hanh answered. “That way, if we’re dreaming, we’ll wake each other up.” The girls pinched each other, but nothing changed—they were definitely awake! Angela said, “That door must be some kind of time portal—like a bridge between the world of today and the prehistoric world.” “I wish I had my camera to shoot this scene,” Hanh said. “I could take a picture of each of these animals and turn it in with my report, which would definitely get me an A.”
