Missouri Compromise- After adding territories that would eventually become states, the issue of slavery started coming up again. Missouri wanted to be added to the Union as a slave state, but this would cause more congressmen in the legislative branch to be pro-slavery as they would be representing slave owners. Henry Clay drafted the Missouri Compromise which stated Missouri would be added as a slave state and Maine would be added as a free state (outlawed slavery). This would add 2 pro-slavery senators from Missouri and 2 anti-slavery senators from Maine, therefore no laws outlawing slavery would be able to pass in the legislature.
