There is a lot of information in this chapter, but it will help to look first at
the structure. It looks like the author is just listing. Each of the organelles
is a subheading and there is a short paragraph underneath. So we will
learn about one at a time.

VOCABULARY

Today we are going to read about cell parts, or organelles. I can see
two parts in this word. Organ-elles. I know that an organ is a part of my
body, like my heart. The suffix –elle means smaller. So I can figure out
that an organelle is like an organ, but smaller.

The names of the organelles may seem challenging, but we can get the
pronunciations right if we use our syllable types. Dividing new words into
syllables is the key to pronouncing them.

protects your body.

These illustrations really don’t make sense to me yet. I have to
self-monitor. I can see that there is a nucleus in both drawings, but the
other organelles are only in one drawing or the other. I am going to
have to read on to see if all cells have all of these organelles, or if
some just have fewer.
