It may seem strange, but all the numbers below have the exact same value and they all mean the exact same thing!
All of the above fractions represent the number, "one-half" or a "half".

Before you begin practicing making your own equivalent fractions, watch the short video on the next slide that explains how you can create them on your own.

However, if you count the number of blue-shaded areas, you'll notice that each rectangle has a different amount of those shaded areas.

Notice that the blue area takes up the exact same amount of space in each rectangle!

Open Ended
List all three equivalent fractions from the previous slide in numerical form. Hint: Numerical from just means that you should NOT spell the words using letters, but that you should use digits like "1" or "1/2" instead of "one" or "half". Also, you won't have to count anything for this first question because all three equivalent fractions are already labeled in numerical form.

Equivalent fractions can be drawn with circles and other shapes, not just rectangles! The picture on the left shows "thirds" or 1/3s. Still, the shaded areas take up the SAME amount of space, so they are equivalent!
