The circulatory system consists of:

  • a system of tubes (arteries, capillaries and veins)

  • a pump (the heart)

  • valves to ensure a one-way flow of blood

Arteries and veins

Arteries carry blood away from the heart towards an organ, while veins carry blood from an organ towards the heart.

Double circulation:

Makes reference to the entrance of blo​od twice in the heart for a complete cycle.

Pulmonary circulation:

After blood has enter into the heart through the vena cava, it moves into the right side of it and goes to the lungs through the pulmonary artery​

Systemic circulation:

Blood rich on oxygen enters into the heart through the pulmonary vein and moves through the left side of the heart to get expulsed towards the body through the aorta​

Soil is a mixture of tiny particles of rock, dead plants and animals, air and water. Different soils have different properties depending on their composition.

  • Sandy soil is pale coloured and has large particles. These create lots of small air gaps. Water drains through them easily so it usually feels dry.
