​The hydroelectric power is made with a barrage and it is made like this

​The water is in the headpon and then it goes threw the intake and go down the penstock that will make pression to rotate the tubine and finally it goees threw the draft tube to the tallrace.

But ​when the turbine is turned it activates the powerhouse then the electricity goes into the tranfor then into the transmisson line to your house.

​The largest producers of hydropower are Brazil, China, Canada, Russia and the United states. One of the largest plants in the world is on the Yangtze River in China. The dam is over 600 feet high and is 1.4 miles wide. However, the facility which generates the most electricity yearly is the Itapúa plant which is located on the river of Parana which flows through Paraguay and Brazil.

They can easily give backup power. They can quickly start running from zero power to generate their maximum output which makes them great for backup purposes
