​Explicit vs. Implied

​An inference (educated guess) can either be stated explicitly or not at all. When it is implied, we have to gather details to make an EDUCATED guess.

What does this look like?​

Explicit: Jesse was excited about going to the museum. We know how he feels and why he was feeling that way.

Implied occurs when the author does not directly state how the character feels or why they feel that way, so we will have to use evidence from the text to figure it out.​
