Citing Evidence
What does this mean? How do we do this?
When we cite evidence in text, we look for details to support a claim or statement that has been given from the text. We use this evidence to make or support an inference.

Explicit vs. Implied
An inference (educated guess) can either be stated explicitly or not at all. When it is implied, we have to gather details to make an EDUCATED guess.

What does this look like?
Explicit: Jesse was excited about going to the museum. We know how he feels and why he was feeling that way.
Implied occurs when the author does not directly state how the character feels or why they feel that way, so we will have to use evidence from the text to figure it out.
