The exposure triangle combines aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These three controls work together to regulate the amount of light that makes it through the lens.

​Triangle Definitions

Aperture: setting that determines how much light is let into your lens. The smaller the number the more light is let in and the smaller your subject field is. The higher the number less light is let in and your area of focus is much larger. Also known as depth of field.

Shutter speed: how fast your shutter moves. The lower the number​, the slower your shutter is. The higher the number, the faster it is. A higher shutter can freeze motion and will let less light in.

ISO:​ your cameras sensitivity to light. This will also affect how much noise/grain is in your image. Your body style (canon/nikon, they're opposite of eachother) will determine if higher ISO brightens the image or not. For canon, you want a low number during direct light and a higher number as the sun sets. Noise will become present as the number goes up.
