​The employer is an individual or an organization in the government, private, non-profit, or business sector that hires and pays people for their work.

​​The majority of businesses are small with only 1- 4 employees

​All employers in Australia are subject to the same responsibilities and requirements which include the provision of

•adequate wages/salaries

​•safe workplace

​• necessary education and training

​• contribution to superannuation

​• essential rights to employees (breaks, supervision)

​• facilities

​Government organisations such as the Fair Work Commission hold employers responsible for implementing these.

​Health and Safety

​ E.g a construction worker will have different duty of care than a teacher etc.
