Respiratory Systems

By now, you should know what the different parts of the respiratory system are, can you name some of the parts of the respiratory system?

You would have gone over the parts and functions of the respiratory system back in Grade 6

If mouth breathing were better, why do we breathe through the nose?

Breathing through the nose provides us with THREE main benefits:

• FILTRATION: Nose hairs prevent foreign particles from reaching the lower respiratory system

• TEMPERATURE REGULATION: The nasal cavity has a lot of blood vessels​ to warm up or cool down the air

• MOISTURE: The temperature regulation also helps moisten the air, preventing cold air from drying out the respiratory system​

While our body exhales a lot of carbon dioxide, all other gasses that we inhaled but did not use is also released when we exhale.​

While we breathe in combination of different gasses, it is mainly oxygen that our body absorbs into our body and the bloodstream.​

Why do we still exhale oxygen if our body absorbs it when we inhale?​
