Types of sampling methods

1. Convenience: quick and easy using people who are readily available.

2. Random: ensuring everyone in target population has an equal chance of being chosen.

3. Stratified: the ratios of people in the population are matched in the sample to make sure it is representative.

Ethical guidelines

Scenario Part 1

An experiment was conducted to test the impact that sugar has on attention span. Participants were Year 11 students who wanted to be involved in the study. The researcher informed students of the nature of the study and risks involved, then gained signed permission forms from the parents/their guardians before the experiment. All students agreed to be part of the study of their own accord.

Scenario Part 2

After the study, the results were published and participant’s names were published next to their results. Due to this, some parents wanted their child’s results to be withdrawn from the study but the researcher said no.
