Southeastern Culture​

• ​Coastal Plains and North Central Plains

• lived in domed-shaped straw ​huts, stayed in villages, with their farms around them, and sent out hunting groups to search for large game.

• Due to these adaptations they were able to live a Sedentary Lifestyle

The Karankawa Tribe- lived along the coast and were first Native Indians to be met by the Spanish

The Coahuiltecan Tribe- mainly lived in South Texas, and ate small animals

The Atakapan Tribe- lived near the Louisiana border and known for fishing in dugout canoes

• seasonal crops, and also hunted for small animals

• Gulf of Mexico, created canoes and fishing nets to catch seafood

• lived in huts made of brush and animal skins that would shelter them from the heat.

Gulf Culture​

• known for their very distinctive pottery. They are the only Puebloan tribe that still live in Texas.

The Tigua Tribe

• known for its striped face/body painting. They hunted and traded. Some Jumano tribes would be found in plains region because bison was more common.​

Puebloan Culture​

• lived in the Mountains and Basins Region and a Sedentary Lifestyle.

• modified the environment by adding irrigation systems to create water routes to farm, hunt buffalo, and smaller animals​

The Kiowa Tribe- most-feared group on the Plains, and developed a calendar.

The Comanche Tribe- used every part of the buffalo, and domesticated animals before the Spanish arrived in Texas

The Apache Tribe- hunted bison, but for a portion of the year also had some farming along rivers

• ​The Plains Culture lived in the Great Plains Region.

• They adapted to the environment by domesticating horses and creating weapons to better hunt and follow bison.

• Due to these adaptations they were able to live a Nomadic Lifestyle and lived in teepees.
