The pronunciation of Niángāo (Chinese New Year glutinous rice cake) in Chinese is similar to “year high”, which refers to good fortune, good luck and happiness. For the working adult it symbolizes the advancement of work and life year by year” and symbolizes the growth of children. Chinese New Year glutinous rice cake is made from glutinous rice flour.

Niángāo 年糕

Dumpling is known as “shuǐjiǎo (水饺)”. It is a traditional folk food and it is also served as main food. Dumplings are the main food served during the Chinese New Year and Winter Solstice in China. It is a thin piece of dough which is filled with a variety of ingredients.

Mooncake is a Chinese pastry which is prepared during the Mid-autumn festival (Mooncake festival). Traditionally, mooncakes are round or rectangular. Usually, the mooncakes have an imprint of Chinese characters on its surface. The types and ingredients of mooncakes vary from places to places.

Chinese dumpling is the traditional festival food during the dragon boat festival. Chinese dumplings are either sweet or salty. Sweet dumplings are filled with sugary red bean paste while salty dumplings are filled with meat, mushroom, peanut, and chestnut. Some people would also add a salted egg yolk in salted dumplings.
