• diamagnetic -  substances that are slightly repelled by magnets are. Table salt, mercury, zinc and gold are diamagnetic substances.

• paramagnetic - substances, such as wood, aluminum, platinum and oxygen, are just slightly attracted by strong magnets

• ferromagnetic- strongly magnetic materials that contains Fe, Ni and Co

• Magnetic Poles- the force of attraction produced by the ends of the magnet

• The blue end of a magnet is usually the south pole (S).

• The red end of a magnet is usually the north pole (N).

• The attraction is strongest at the poles and weakest at the center.
