Social Studies 8B: Module 6: Personal Responsibility​

Objectives

Students will:

​ 1. Learn how the responsibilities of citizenship also extend into our personal relationships.

2. Learn about stereotypes and how it is important to be open to learn from other people.

​Good citizens are active in their communities, states, and nations

1. Volunteer for a local non-profit group

2. ​Donate to local charities

3. ​Shop locally.

4. ​Take a class at a community center

5. ​Register to vote, then VOTE!

• Validating others by respectfully listening to their opinions, even if you don't agree with them, makes them feel respected

• Listen for understanding, do not just think of your next argument

• Allow others to be different​

• Be willing to learn from other people​

​How do we avoid stereotypes of people that seem different?

​

• ​Ask yourself if you have any biases about the situation

• Seek out diversity in your life

• ​Put yourself in someone else's shoes

• When people stereotype others, they don't see the real person​
