Kennedy Assassination

Nov. 22, 1963

President Kennedy was riding in a convertible car in a parade when he was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, killing him. The news spread quickly because of TV.

MLK Jr. Assassination

Memphis, Tennessee

April 4, 1968

Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated while standing on a hotel balcony. Riots broke out across the country after his murder.

The Space Race

Working to get to the moon!

• The US was competing with the Soviet Union to get to the moon first.

• The USSR sent a satellite and then a human into space by 1961.

• President Kennedy vowed to put a man on the moon by 1970!

• In 1961, Alan Shepard became the first American launched into space.

• In July 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon!​
