Flatworms are the least complex of all types of worms. There are around 29,000 species.
They are members of the Phylum Platyhelminthes.
They get their name from the Greek work "platy" meaning flat and "helminth", meaning worm. Their body is flattened dorso-ventrally.

Flatworms are acoelomates and have thin, solid bodies.
Acoelomates lack a true body cavity.
They are the simplest animals with bilateral symmetry and triploblastic (composed of three fundamental cell layers).
