​Mom is going to have a baby.

Deb and Nick are excited.

“I hope it’s a girl,” says Deb.

“I think a boy would be best,”

says Nick.

“If we have a girl, I want to call

her Fran,” says Deb.

“I like the name Frank,” says Nick.

​“Time for bed,“ says Mom.

“Goodnight,” say Deb and Nick.

“Goodnight,” say Mom and Dad.

​“This is strange,” says Mom the

next morning. “I only had a little

bit done last night, and now look.”

“And there are hats and mittens

for us!” yell Deb and Nick.

“Mine are pink,” says Deb.

“This is very strange,”

say Mom and Dad.

​“I think Kitty did it,” Deb says

with a smile. “She likes your yarn

a lot, Mom.”

“Don’t be silly,” says Dad. “Cats

can’t knit.”

“I don’t care who did it. I love

my new hat,” says Nick

​Deb and Nick are going to school.

Mom and Dad are going to work.

“Bye, Mom and Dad,” call Deb

and Nick.

Mom and Dad wave. “Have a

good day!”

Then Deb turns to Kitty.

“Be good, Kitty,” says Deb.

When the family gets home,

they are shocked. Someone knit

them sweaters!

“What is all this?” says Deb.

“Awesome,” says Nick.

“Who did all this?” says Dad.

“I wish I could tell you,”

says Mom

​“Hey, Deb,” whispers Nick.

“When Mom and Dad are

asleep, let’s tip-toe back down.

Then we will see who is doing

all that knitting.”

​“Oh, my,” Deb whispers.

“I can’t believe my eyes.”

says Nick.

“Shhh,” says Mom. “What are

they doing?”

“Look,” says Dad.

​“Get me in a picture,” says Deb.

“No one will believe this.”

“I want one of me too!” says Nick.

Mom is calling the newspaper.

“Hello,“ Mom says into the phone.

She tells about the knitting cats.

“No, I am not kidding,” she says.
